We're making wine so that we can tell people that we're winemakers and not unemployed. We've tried pottery, mosaics , weaving and yurt building but hope we'll be better at this. This blog is meant to be a sort of lab notebook but with witty bits in between all the records and methods that we could perhaps sell to Jamie Oliver or use as a film script.

I live in the town of Barrydale on 4 erven. The micro-climate is ideal for growing wine grapes. Have planted 850 Merlot vines - now 2 years old and trellised with cordon and 8 plastic wires. The soil is clayish and perfect for Merlot.

Hi, I used to make 5 gallons/week beer in my youth. I no longer drink beer. My father used to make wine from dandelions, elderberries etc. I did not like wine in those days. I do now. I want to know how to make +-1000ltrs a year driesh, roseish red wine. That's why I am here. Regards.
